Ministry Of Power Appoints The Date For Enforcement Of The Provisions Of The Jan Vishwas (Amendment Of Provisions) Act, 2026, Relating To The Electricity Act, 2003

The Ministry of Power has notified 1 June 2026 as the effective date for implementing the provisions of the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2026 relating to the Electricity Act, 2003. The amendments decriminalise several offences and replace imprisonment with monetary penalties, reflecting the government’s push towards trust-based governance and ease of doing business. Key changes include higher penalties for damage to electricity infrastructure, expanded powers for regulators to penalise non-compliance, removal of certain outdated offences, and introduction of compounding provisions for specific violations. The reforms aim to streamline enforcement while increasing financial consequences for regulatory breaches.
