The Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 (the “Act”) was enacted with the objective to provide for more effective provisions for the maintenance and welfare of parents and senior citizens guaranteed and recognised under the Constitution of India. Born from the challenge of withering joint family systems, the Act aims to provide simple, inexpensive and speedy relief to senior citizens.
