Why air travel is set to become costlier from August 31

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (“MoCA”) has issued an order No. 28/2022 (“Latest MoCA Order”) dated August 10, 2022 to remove the air fare bands with effect from August 31, 2022. This effectively means that the earlier defined upper and lower limits on airfares will now be removed with effect from August 31, 2022. This would leave the airlines in charge to determine the prices for air travel on domestic routes. The capping (or the airfare bands) was previously introduced by the MoCA in May 2020 as an extraordinary measure to control excessive rise in air fares during Covid-19 pandemic.
