Merit As The Only Metric

In an interview with BW Legal World, Amar Gupta of JSA reflected on the evolution of Indian law firms from promoter-driven setups to merit-based institutional models. He highlighted JSA’s pioneering approach of eliminating family control and equity buy-ins, while stressing teamwork, technology, and AI integration in modern legal practice. Gupta said younger lawyers are driving change through new ambitions and expectations. He also emphasised the importance of institutional arbitration in India and called for stronger training, judicial awareness, and policy support to make India a global arbitration hub.
