Ananya Kumar

Ananya’s key focus areas are corporate & commercial litigation and dispute resolution. He specialises in arbitrations pertaining to industries like construction, engineering, oil & gas, infrastructure and road project contracts. He represents clients in arbitrations and court proceedings involving disputes arising out of shareholder and joint venture agreements. 

Ananya represents the firm’s clients before the Supreme Court of India, High Courts and various Tribunals. His legal advice on diverse issues pertaining to litigious aspects of transactions and agreements are well respected. 

Ananya was recognised in the Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2017 editorial as a ‘Recommended Lawyer’. 

Currently, he is handling multiple arbitrations in the construction & engineering sector for some of India’s largest infrastructure companies. 

Some of his recent work includes:

  • Advised and acted on behalf of Larsen & Toubro Limited in arbitration proceedings against Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL), in relation to disputes under an EPC contract for the construction of a captive power plant, forming part of IOCL’s Panipat Naphtha Cracker Plant. The matter was listed by the India Business Law Journal as one of the “Deals of the Year’ for 2017 
  • Advised and acted on behalf of one of India’s largest Engineering & Construction companies in arbitration proceedings pertaining to disputes arising out of an EPC contract for construction of the remaining balance of the plant for a 1200MW super thermal power project in Chhattisgarh 
  • Represented an Italian oil and gas major in arbitration proceedings against an Indian PSU in relation to disputes arising out of a production sharing contract and joint operating agreement 
  • Recently acted on behalf of multiple foreign PE investors of a Bangalore-based fire solutions company in proceedings before the National Company Law Tribunal

Ananya Kumar has been practising law since 2003. He has previously worked at the Chambers of Mr. K.K. Venugopal, Senior Advocate before joining JSA.
