Is women’s reservation merely a paper tiger?

On September 28, 2023, the President of India granted her assent to the Constitution (128th Amendment) Bill, 2023 (better known as the Women’s Reservation Bill), now enacted as the Constitution (106* Amendment) Act.

The Act seeks to reserve 33 per cent of the seats for women in the Lok Sabha, the State legislative assemblies and the Delhi legislative assembly, through the amendment of Article 239AA of the Constitution and the insertion of two new articles— Article 330A and Article 332A.
