In the month of October 2022, the Supreme Court upheld the Competition Commission of India’s (CCI) investigation against WhatsApp and Facebook. Further, the CCI passed two separate orders penalising Google for abusing its dominant position. It also penalised MakeMytrip and OYO for indulging in anti-competitive practices, kraft paper manufacturers and axle bearing manufacturers for indulging in a cartelisation. It approved several notable combinations including:
- acquisition of minority shareholding of Intas Pharmaceuticals by ADIA.
- acquisition of sole control of BillDesk by PayU.
- acquisition of certain SPVs by IndInfravit and CPPIB.
- acquisition of minority shareholding of Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail by GIC.
- acquisition of minority shareholding of IIFL Home by ADIA.
- acquisition of sole control of the consumer banking activities of Citibank by Axis Bank.
- acquisition of minority shareholding of Bharti Airtel by Google.
- acquisition of sole control of Hindustan National Glass & Industries Limited by Independent Sugar under Green Channel
