New labour code: 3 employee-friendly changes that could make working life easier

The new Labour Codes introduce several employee-friendly changes aimed at improving workplace conditions and benefits. Key reforms include wider social security coverage, recognition and protection for gig and platform workers, and stronger benefits for fixed-term employees, including equal wages and gratuity eligibility after one year. The codes also bring clearer wage definitions, mandatory appointment letters, improved workplace safety norms, and better grievance mechanisms. These reforms consolidate 29 labour laws into four codes to modernise employment regulations and strengthen worker protections.
