Suvaaankoor’s practice area covers diverse aspects of civil and commercial litigation. He handles sector specific civil and commercial litigation, arbitration, constitutional litigation and regularly appears before the Supreme Court of India, various High Courts, National Company Law Tribunals, National Company Law Appellate Tribunal, various civil and consumer courts around the country.

Suvaaankoor has been involved in advising & representing various diverse clients like state-owned engineering and manufacturing companies, multinational IT companies, manufacturer of construction and mining equipment companies, sports federations in India, Banks and Financial Institutions, developer and property owners, Hospitals, singers and their management companies, and comedy entertainment companies.

He has also been involved in advising and representing financial creditors, operational creditors and corporate debtors in insolvency proceedings (including during and after the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process) involving pharmaceutical companies, construction and engineering companies, and transportation and logistics companies, and has also appeared before various National Company Law Tribunals and National Company Law Appellate Tribunal. He has also advised and represented clients on trademark and copyright related issues and other media, sports and entertainment related queries before various High Courts and Civil Courts around the country.

He has been practicing law since 2014 and has previously worked at Krishnamurthy & Co. (K Law) and Tatva Legal Mumbai before joining JSA’s disputes team that specializes in handling civil and commercial litigations and advisory relating to energy and infrastructure sector.

  • Co-authored and presented a paper titled “Institutional Arbitration – The Dawn of expeditious justice system” in the National Seminar on Arbitration and Alternate Dispute resolution in India: Issues and Challenges (HNLU, Raipur –March 24-25,2012).

  • Represented an association of over 1000 importers across India in a writ petition seeking strict implementation of the orders and directives passed by various government agencies before the Supreme Court of India.
  • Successfully represented a leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment company in a consumer dispute before the Supreme Court of India, National Consumer Redressal Forum, State Consumer Forum and District Consumer Forum.
  • Represented India’s largest state-owned engineering and manufacturing company in recovery of its outstanding dues in relation to a major infrastructure project in Jammu & Kashmir before a three-member arbitral tribunal consisting of three retired judges of the High Court and Supreme Court of India.
  • Advised a trade finance company in a multi jurisdiction dispute involving India, UAE and USA. Also represented the said company in arbitration related litigations in India before the Delhi High Court.
  • Successfully represented a bondholder of a bank before the Madras High Court in challenging the full write down of Basel III Tier 2 bonds issued by the said bank in view of its amalgamation with another bank.
  • Represented a developer in a suit seeking injunction against invocation of pledged REIT units worth over Rs. 20 billion.
  • Successfully represented a comedy entertainment company and an Indian retail corporation in at trademark infringement suit.
  • Represented a Non-Banking Financial Company, Indian arm of a global investment firm, in various litigations against the borrower, guarantors and the flat purchasers of an infrastructure project.
  • Successfully defending two entities from UK and the singer (USA based), a music corporation, a leading production house in various copyright infringement suits.
  • Successfully represented two sports federations in India in writ petitions challenging the election process of the said sports federations.
  • Successfully represented a multinational IT company in a writ petition before the Hon’ble High Court challenging an order passed by a government authority claiming unpaid wages of security guards.
  • Appeared and argued on behalf of an international fund in an appeal which laid down the law with respect to revival of a company petition before the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal.
  • Represented private banks, PSU banks and asset reconstruction company in an appeal challenging the approval of a resolution plan before the National Company Law Tribunal, Mumbai and National Company Law Appellate Tribunal.
  • Represented the assenting Committee of Creditors of a pharmaceutical company in an application for approval of the resolution plan.
  • Represented banks to initiate corporate insolvency resolution process against a pharmaceutical company, a listed infrastructure and construction company, an infrastructure development company undertaking development of infrastructure projects through government concessions.
  • Represented foreign media companies in the process of merger by absorption with a few Indian media companies and defended a demerged entity in a proceeding challenging the de-merger order.
  • Representing an independent director of a company which is an engineering conglomerate and provides services for power and industrial equipment in a case of alleged mismanagement and fraudulent activities.
  • Represented one of the biggest e-commerce websites in various consumer complaints and prepared a root cause analysis and litigation management.
