Bijal has an invaluable and rich experience in handling various types of litigations. The scope of his litigation expertise covers a wide range including corporate and commercial, intellectual property rights, arbitrations, writs under the Constitution of India, Admiralty.

He also covers non litigation and transaction business covering mergers, acquisitions and take- overs, joint ventures, PE investments, legal audits and due diligence exercises, conveyancing and real estate transaction, and drafting of commercial agreements.

Bijal has been practising before the Gujarat High Court, and also appears before the Supreme Court of India and various High Courts.

n the pharmaceutical space, Bijal has handled several litigations pertaining to the Drug Price Control Orders (DPCO), before the Supreme Court of India and various High Courts. He has also handled several intellectual property rights disputes, pertaining to patents, trademarks and copyrights, as also bio-similars, for several pharmaceuticals companies. Bijal continues to advise and assist on mergers, takeovers and formation of joint ventures.

Bijal joined JSA in 2015. He was previously a Partner with Singhi & Co. and earlier worked as a sole proprietor of Chhatrapati & Associates.

Some of the prominent cases handled by Bijal include:

  • Advised and assisted Safal Constructions Private Limited, Ahmedabad, and its affiliates (BSafal Group) in connection to its 50:50 joint venture with Phoenix Mills Limited, Mumbai (PML) to develop a premium retail development in Ahmedabad under the brand “Palladium Mall”. Both the parties will invest around Rs. 230 crores each for their 50% stake in the joint venture. The JV entities involved in this transaction are SGH Realty LLP, True Value Infrabuild LLP, Zaveri and Company Private Limited, Ausom Enterprise Limited and KIFS Infrastructure LLP.
  • Consistently represented the Securities and Exchange Board of India before the Gujarat High Court
  • Represented various major corporates, banks and financial institutions in litigations before the Gujarat High Court, other High Courts of the country and the Supreme Court of India
  • Successfully led Cadila Healthcare Ltd., in an international arbitration under ICC Singapore Arbitration, against a South African entity.
  • He advised and led the negotiations on the then largest merger and acquisition in the Indian pharmaceutical sector, when Zydus Cadila, acquired a combined 27.72 per cent controlling stake from Asta Medica AG (Asta) and Heller Vermogensverwaltungs GmbH (Heller) in German Remedies (GRL), in 2001
  • Bijal continues to advise and assist on mergers, takeovers and formation of joint ventures.
  • He recently advised the Tsingtuo Group/ Tsingshan Group, in connection with setting up/ contracting for a joint venture through one of their subsidiaries with a couple of Indian Companies in the steel sector
  • His other recent transactions have been in the chemicals, hotel, food, pharmaceuticals and animal feed industry
  • Bijal was involved in advising two of the first township projects in Gujarat – Applewoods and Shantigram – under the Township policy of Gujarat
