Akhil Anand has 22 years of vast and substantial experience in the practice of law primarily relating to Information Technology Laws and Criminal Law including white collar crime.

Akhil is a seasoned litigating lawyer, and handles a wide array of matters including in the field of information technology laws, data privacy, environmental laws, intellectual property rights, insolvency laws, arbitration claims, consumer disputes, criminal law, online gaming and quite able in leading evidence, conducting trials and addressing final arguments.

Akhil advises and represents Online Gaming companies before the Supreme Court and various High Courts in respect of bans imposed by the respective State Governments on Online Gaming. Akhil has represented the Online Gaming companies before the High Courts of Madras, Kerala, Delhi, Orrisa, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka while upholding the legality of online games of skill such as online rummy, online poker and fantasy sports, struck down the respective amendments, which effectively placed a blanket prohibition on online games of skills.  Akhil has also successfully represented the celebrities (endorsing the Online Gaming Platforms) in Public Interest Litigation filed before various High Courts, wherein the online games such as rummy and poker were sought to be banned.

Akhil had represented the Online Gaming companies before Madras High Court challenging the “Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Online Gambling and Regulation of Online Games Act, 2022”, which prohibited games of skill specifically Rummy and Poker when played online. Vide Judgment dated 09.11.2023, the Madras Court upheld that the Act cannot be invoked to ban games of skill like Rummy and Poker. Akhil has also represented the Online Gaming Companies another round of litigation before Madras High Court challenging the ‘Tamil Nadu Gaming Authority (Real Money Games) Regulations, 2025.

Recently, Akhil represented the Online Gaming Companies in the levy of GST on the Online Gaming Platforms and also the challenge by the respective State Governments before the Supreme Court.

Akhil had represented Tencent Games (PUBG) before various High Court elated to the ban of the video game. He has also advised, strategised, represented the company before the regulator (MEITY) and advised the company on regulatory compliances.

Akhil regularly represents and advise social media intermediaries and fintech companies on an ongoing basis on various matters relating to Information and Technology laws and intermediary liability.
