Alvia Ahmed, Senior Associate, JSA

Alvia’s key focus area is Regulatory and Dispute Resolution in the Telecom, Technology and Broadcasting Sector.

Her work primarily is Civil, Regulatory and Constitutional Dispute Resolution in diverse fora including the Supreme Court of India, High Courts of various states, District Courts, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal and Arbitral Tribunals.

She is involved in various aspects of Dispute Resolution including evaluation of contractual arrangements / regulatory and legal framework to facilitate compliance and advising clients on processes to avoid / mitigate risks in the conduct of business; providing strategic advice & opinions; drafting pleadings, briefing counsel; appearing & conducting matters – both on original and appellate stages.

Alvia has been practicing law since 2015. Before joining JSA, she gained valuable experience interning with Justice Aftab Alam, Judge, Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, Khaitan & Co., and Senior Advocates in the Patna High Court.

Some of the key assignments in these areas handled and being handled by Alvia amongst others, cover the following:

  • Advised and represented a leading pharmaceutical company before the Delhi High Court wherein the issue of tender disqualification was involved. The dispute primarily was that of disqualification of the bid for supply of 0.1 ml and 0.5 ml syringes and involved business of 1 billion and more products.
  • Represented Sistema Smart Technologies Limited (previously known as Sistema Shyam TeleServices Ltd.) before TDSAT and Supreme Court in the landmark AGR Judgment where the Supreme Court upheld the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) interpretation of the definition of Adjusted Gross Revenue given in Clause 19.1 of the License Agreement.
  • Represented a leading broadcast service provider before Telecom Disputes and Settlement Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) wherein the issue involved was whether a particular head of revenue falls within the ambit of Gross Revenue as defined under the License Agreement.
  • Advised financial services company on digitization of loan process end to end, i.e., Application, Sanction, Signing and Disbursal.
  • Advised an American media service provider on bundling of services and tariffs and advised a Chinese web browser on blocking of sites/ websites.
