Anand Lakra

A partner in JSA’s Mumbai office. His practice focuses on private and public M&A transactions, private equity and venture capital investments, capital market transactions, with a particular focus on securities law matters, publicly traded companies, take private/delisting offers and takeovers. His clients include leading private equity funds, publicly traded companies, family offices, institutional investors, high-net-worth individuals, and investment banks.

In 2022, Anand was selected as one of the 50 future Indian legal leaders by India Business Law Journal.

Anand has been consistently recognized as a notable practitioner for M&A and corporate work in India by International Financial Legal Review with the latest recognition in 2022.

In 2022, Anand was featured in the annual edition of ALB Asia’s 40 under 40 list, which profiles the most accomplished lawyers in Asia under 40 years of age. Anand is among the only five Indian lawyers who are part of this coveted list.

Public M&A and Private Equity

  • Advised Baring Private Equity Asia in its acquisition of a controlling stake in Indira IVF. Indira IVF is the market leader within Assisted Reproductive Technology services in India and completes approximately 40,000 IVF cycles annually, making it the largest player in India and amongst top five players globally.
  • Advised Baring Private Equity Asia in its acquisition of HDFC Credila for a valuation of USD 1.5 billion. The deal was the largest ever private equity buyout in the Indian financial services sector.
  • Advised Baring Private Equity Asia in its merger with EQT AB. The deal value was Euro 6.8 billion and won the Private Equity Deal of the Year at the IFLR APAC Awards 2023.
  • Advised Google in its investment in Bharti Airtel. The composite deal value was USD 1 billion. – Listed among India’s top 50 winning deals for the year 2022 at IBLJ Deals of the Year award. Bharti Airtel is a publicly traded company in India.
  • Advised Singapore Telecommunications in its sale of its equity stake in Bharti Airtel Limited to Bharti Telecom Limited for an aggregate consideration of approximately SGD 2.25 billion. Bharti Airtel is a publicly traded company in India.
  • Advised Baring Private Equity Asia in its sale of Hexaware to Carlyle. This was the largest, in terms of deal value, private equity exit in the technology sector in India.
  • Advised Baring Private Equity Asia in its acquisition of the BPO business of Hinduja Global. The deal value was USD 1.2 billion. Hinduja Global is a publicly traded company in India.
  • Advised Multiples Private Equity’s in its investment in BDR Pharma for a valuation of USD 1 billion.
  • Advised Baring Private Equity Asia in its acquisition of IGT Solutions with a deal value of approximately USD 800 million.
