Apoorva’s area of practice is Regulatory & Policy with a focus on Regulatory Litigation in the Power sector, Oil & Gas projects, Mining and Environment.
He handles matters relating to tariff fixation, grant of short term & long term open access, approval of power purchase agreements, fuel supply issues for thermal power plants, approvals for use of forest land and other contractual & regulatory issues with respect to these sectors. He also advises on regulatory compliances required in relation to various Infrastructure projects such as, establishing Coal based Thermal Power Plants, Wind Power Projects and laying of City Gas Distribution Network.
Apoorva has been involved in advising & representing various corporate entities involved in Generation, Distribution Trading, Transmission of Electricity, City Gas Distribution and Mining before various State Electricity Regulatory Commissions, Appellate Tribunals for Electricity, various High Courts and The Supreme Court of India.
Additionally he has also represented Consumer Associations in matters pertaining to tariff fixation before the Electricity Regulatory Commissions, Appellate Tribunal and the Supreme Court of India. He has advised on risk analysis and the mitigation strategy involved in various projects and rendered legal opinions on regulatory issues pertaining to tariff fixation, licensing and electricity trading to various companies in India. Apoorva has been part of team and has anchored some path breaking matters such as – petition seeking appropriate mechanism for off-setting the impact of tariff due to unprecedented rise in the price of imported coal primarily due to changed legal regime in source countries; and designation of privately owned industrial consumer as a Regional Entity under the India Electricity Grid Code.
Before joining the firm Apoorva has worked for various International and National funding organisations on projects relating to community forestry management, rural livelihood and so on.
